09/24 Minimal Monthly β€” Clearing Gutters and Curating Closets

Minimal Monthly

Hi Reader,

What a jump in temperature this week. Within 48 hours we went from flip-flops and shorts to jacket, scarf, beanie and booties. The sudden shift gave me the impetus to get out on the rooftop and clean the gutters before the cold really sets in. All that's left to do is bring in the containers that aren't winter-proof and tackle one final round of weeding in October. Easy-peasy. No knotweed in my neck of the woods. πŸ˜‰

Good Housekeeping lists seven other things to check in your yard before winter kicks in, including garden tools. I've ruined a few of those in the past myself by leaving them out all winter. πŸ₯Ά

Speaking of gardening, now's a great time to nab some deals for next season. Like these lightweight, spiral hoses. Save 35% on select products from THXEVER with the promo code 35DNRWHK, through the 5th of October, while supplies last. πŸ’¦

New on the Blog

In defence of classic quality over high street quantity, here are 20 or so picks for a timeless minimalist wardrobe, how to put everything together over time, why that coat you've been eying for a thousand quid is actually more affordable than the one from Zara, and a potential checklist for those who want to revamp their closet entirely. Whew.

Stuff I've Loved

  • If you're on the market for a new hoover anytime soon, NY Magazine has a helpful run-down of the 15 best models for all sorts of flooring types and allergy/pet situations. Their best hardwood pick is just 80 bucks.
  • If you've never geeked out on 3D printing before, you are about to. This guy was fed up with standard drawer organisers. So he printed his own! I foresee a whole new hobby in my not-so-distant future πŸ˜€
  • How to not look retired when you're actually retired? The WSJ fashion section is actually pretty decent and I dare say these outfits would look great on any woman, of any age.
  • Matt Rutherford not only writes a weekly newsletter full of career tips, but also compiles a darn cool mixtape once a month. Really good tunes that I wouldn't have discovered on my own.
  • Interior inspo: I'm still lurking around malelivingspace on Reddit. And this guy's minimalist-cosy flat in Madrid was one of my faves this month.

Happy Monday! πŸ‘‹

August 2024 Minimal Monthly Hi Reader, Home organisation obviously focuses on the tangibleβ€”sorting through drawers, decluttering closets, and arranging living spaces. But what about things beyond our physical environment, noise for example? In a free society, much like in our homes, we face an abundance of choices. Just as we navigate through our possessions, democracy allows us to sift through a multitude of information, opinions and ideas, and tune out what we don't like and what doesn't...

raspberry-sour cream dip with melon salad

July 2024 Minimal Monthly Hi Reader, Cold meals in the summertime are the best and if I can avoid cooking in the evening, I'm game. This simple raspberry dip is great this time of year if you like tangy stuff. It's quickly made and goes well dolloped onto melon salads, as a smoked salmon topping, for dipping veggie nibbles, crackers, broiled chicken chunks or cold shrimp. Here's all you need: A generous cup of raspberries About 200g or 3/4 cup of sour cream 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar Let the...

June 2024 Minimal Monthly Hi Reader, It's hot out. AC is not a thing here. So it's also hot inside. The sun doesn't go down until after ten at night, and it's up again at four in the morning. Afternoon naps are the way to go this time of year, if you ask me. In between the midsummer drowsiness, eating pound after pound of fresh cherries and watching Euro Cup matches, I saw The Smashing Pumpkins last weekend. The concert left me feeling rather nostalgic. Me and 16,999 other people at the...
